Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer
w/ Sam Gleaves
5:30pm at Isis Music Hall
($15)

Two-time Grammy® Award Winners, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer celebrate their 45th recording, Get Up & Do Right. They are master musicians with a career spanning over 35 years. Their superb harmonies are backed by instrumental virtuosity on the guitar, five-string banjo, ukulele, mandolin, cello-banjo, and many other instruments. An eclectic folk festival on their own terms, their repertoire ranges from classic country to western swing, gypsy jazz to bluegrass, and old-time string band to contemporary folk including some original gems. Their versatility defies a brief description, perhaps “well rounded Americana” does it best. “As close to flawless folk/bluegrass as it gets.” — Billboard Magazine

Chris Knight
9:00pm at The Orange Peel
($20 adv / $25 DOS)

Ten years and five acclaimed albums into one of the most uncompromising careers in American music, the singer/songwriter whose work has been compared to Prine, Cash and Nebraska-era Springsteen by some the toughest music writers in America may have finally conquered his most demanding critic of all: himself. The music itself is a richly organic sonic mosaic where snarling guitars and pounding drums live alongside mournful violas, plucky banjos, B-3 organ and even the occasional trombone and bouzouki.

Tellico
9:00pm at Jack of the Wood
($5)

Tellico is the most recent product of Asheville NC's thriving roots music scene, its members well schooled in bluegrass but with an unbridled organic Appalachiacana sound. The band features the singing and songwriting of Anya Hinkle (guitar, fiddle, vocals) and Stig Stiglets (bass, vocals), formerly of Dehlia Low, with Aaron Ballance (also formerly of Dehlia Low) on dobro and lap steel and Jed Willis (formerly of Town Mountain, Wooden Toothe) on mandolin, clawhammer banjo and telecaster. Well known for their rootsy, authentic singing and vocal harmony, as well as in the hard-edge nostalgic yet modern themes of their songwriting, the quartet combines some of the finest voices, songs and instrumental prowess in western North Carolina and beyond.

The Claire Lynch Band
8:30pm at Isis Music Hall
($20)

Dolly Parton credits Claire with "one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today." Claire's harmonies have graced the recordings of many stellar musicians. Equally gifted as a songwriter, her songs have been recorded by The Seldom Scene, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Cherryholmes, The Whites and others. Blazing her own trail in the mid '70s when there were few role models for a young woman in the genre, Claire Lynch made history when she led the Front Porch String Band, which evolved in the '80s and '90s into “one of the sharpest and most exciting post-modern bluegrass bands on the circuit.” She formed The Claire Lynch Band in 2005.

Son Little
w/ ALA.NI
9:00pm at The Mothlight
($13 adv / $15 DOS)

Son Little, the singer and songwriter born Aaron Livingston, is the easygoing musical alchemist of our time. He is a conjurer, and much like those of his heroes Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix, his songs are deconstructions of the diaspora of American R & B. Deftly he weaves different eras of the sound - blues, soul, gospel, rock and roll - through his own unique vision, never forced, always smooth, each note a tributary on the flowing river of rhythm and blues. The currents empty into an estuary, and into this well water Son dips his bucket - trusting innately in the magic's existence. And now, with his second full-length album, New Magic, he has delivered a profound statement, a cohesive creation that captures the diverse spirit of American music in a fresh and modern way.
