Drive-By Truckers – Night 1
w/ Lydia Loveless
9:00pm at The Orange Peel
(18+, $27 adv / $30 DOS)
Tickets now on sale

Drive-By Truckers have always been outspoken, telling a distinctly American story via craft, character, and concept, all backed by sonic ambition and social conscience. These master songwriters wisely avoid overt polemics to explore such pressing issues as race, income inequality, the NRA, deregulation, police brutality, Islamophobia, and the plague of suicides and opioid abuse.

No BS! Brass Band
9:00pm at The Mothlight
($13 adv / $15 DOS)

Based in Richmond, Virginia, No BS! Brass Band has quickly earned a reputation as a premiere band to see for heart-pounding energy and uncontrollable dancing. They take their music into uncharted territory, embracing the spirit of New Orleans into its original East Coast modern funk and fearlessly combining elements of James Brown, John Coltrane, Michael Jackson, and Led Zeppelin into their fiercely original sound.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades
w/ Kitchen Dwellers
9:00pm at New Mountain AVL
($12 / $15 DOS)

While strongly rooted in bluegrass, old-time, and folk music, Wisconsin-based Horseshoes and Hand Grenades produces a sound that draws on the vaults of music collectively and individually enjoyed throughout the course of their lives thus far. The music doesn’t lend itself well to categories or boundaries.

Greensky Bluegrass
w/ Fruition
6:00pm at Salvage Station
($23 adv / $25 DOS)

The five members of Greensky Bluegrass have forged a defiant, powerful sound that, while rooted in classic stringband Americana, extends outwards with a fearless, exploratory zeal. The tension and release between these components – tradition and innovation, prearranged songs and improvisation, acoustic tones and electric volume – is what makes them so thrillingly dynamic, in concert and on record.

North Mississippi Allstars
w/ Danielle Nicole
9:00pm at The Orange Peel
(18+, $18 adv / $20 DOS)
Tickets now on sale

In their newest work, North Mississippi Allstars weave their bred-to-the-bone musical sensibility with a potent message of positivity, inclusion, family, and hope. As ever, songs like the powerhouse title track and “You Got To Move” – the latter featuring accompaniment from Hill Country Blues guitar hero Kenny Brown and award-winning singer/bassist Danielle Nicole – pay homage to the band’s long lineage of musical heroes, celebrating the blues’ extraordinary legacy while reshaping and pushing it into contemporary relevance with fatback funk, slippery soul, and pure unadulterated rock ‘n’ roll.

Mipso
w/ The Brothers Comatose & The Lil’ Smokies
9:00pm at The Orange Peel
(18+, $16 adv / $19 DOS)

While the instrumentation on the acclaimed Dark Holler Pop embraced North Carolina’s bluegrass heritage head-on, Old Time Reverie finds Mipso shifting their focus away from bluegrass, introducing new instruments and textures to create a distinctly different sound. Clawhammer banjo out of 1920s early country music meets atmospheric electric organ (played by Josh Oliver of The Everybodyfields) more native to 1970s pop. Add imaginative songwriting and a group cohesion gained from two years of near constant touring, and the resulting sound is powerfully rhythmic, lyrically sharp, and woven with beautiful four-part harmonies.
